Infection of wounds by the bacterium Clostridium tetani results in tetanus. A general increase in muscle stiffness is seen, causing a rigid, unsteady gait. The goat develops bloat and has an anxious look. The symptoms get progressively worse and convulsions may occur. The goat dies because it is unable to eat or breathe. Vaccination with Lambivac will prevent the disease; an initial course of two injections is required followed by 6 monthly boosters.
